Now wouldn’t it be a bit scary to come across a gang like this? I think so! Even though they have a muzzle on their….uh…hyenas. Yes, those are Spotted hyenas; the most aggressive and the largest of the four different hyena types. How large are they? Check out the size difference between Hyena Man and Hyena: That’s a pretty big predator to have leaning up against you! Did you know that hyenas have the strongest bite force of any mammal? Grolar Bears and Pizzlies, Oh My! You must know by now that I love Polar bears. What you don’t know is that I feel the opposite about Grizzlies. Grizzly bears, to me, are frightening and huge and unpredictable; which really, Polar bears are, too…but Polar bears look cuter while doing it! ๐ Polar bears live at the top of the world, in the arctic regions. Grizzly bears live near streams and trees. But as the icepack gets smaller, more grizzlies venture farther north. So far north that they meet up with….Polar bears!
Sooo… let’s see how you do on this test for crocs, gators, & gharials! Should be fairly simple to figure it out if you remember these three things: snout shape “pinch” in snout (or not) for lower 4th tooth visible upper/lower teeth. Okay, let’s go! Next post I’ll give you the answers… …not that you need them, right? ๐
Sooo, Leapons and Narlugas. Amazing hybrid animals. But what’s a hybrid? It’s the result of a mating between two animal species, subspecies, genera, or family. Hybrids are interesting because they’re unusual…most animals that hybridize do so because of scarcity of mates in their own species, or changing territory patterns due to weather or other pressures. Narlugas are the offspring of beluga whales and narwhals. Though seen in the wild, there has not been one actually captured. Check out the photos below: Here’s a good photo of a Narluga face: There are actually a lot of hybrids around. We’ve already looked at the…
Just get close to a seahorse. Real close. And I bet you’ll say to yourself…”unbelievable…” The silvery iridescence on the Lined seahorse above is like a powdering of stardust. Amazing! As are the details on the seahorses in the following photos. I think they will blow you away…. Can you believe these exist somewhere in the sea? Keep scrolling! The one above looks like a dragon up close, doesn’t it? And here are my very very favorite photos! Did you know the seahorse is considered a carnivore? He eats shrimp, small fish, and plankton. And one parting shot……
From the monstrous Aluminum Can Dragon to the ethereal Zip-Tie Bear, people are using trash to make art. Take a look at the above animal sculpture; it’s beautiful…and made out of old tires! But let me cruise you through animals made out of all kinds of junk…they are really something!
So what do you have to do to be classified as a big cat? You have to be able to…. roar! An expanded classification of big cats also includes four more felines that can’t roar, but are big in size. Below is a snapshot of the fur colors and patterns of the eight big cats. Let’s see how many you can identify: In my next post, we will take a closer look at the patterns and give you some keys that will help you “spot” them…ha ha.

Introducing….the Crested penguins! These guys have some fancy feathers on their heads that make them look like, well… tropical birds. But that’s okay…they live off the warmer jungle islands south of New Zealand. Leave a comment with your answer! Hint: Look at the face color to help you!
How to Keep Lions Out of Your Garden And why would you need to? Imagine yourself in Africa. Mozambique, to be exact. Bush pigs are raiding your veggie crops at night. Ever seen a bush pig? Yes, I lived the dream…I had horses when I was growing up. My favorite was a pinto named Daisy. She and I had so much fun together! My mom loved the appaloosa color, so we had a couple of those, too. We never had a brindle horse; I have never actually seen one, though I love the way they look. Appaloosa, pinto, and brindle are colors horses can have. Want to see them? Some of these colors are stunning…and strange! Brindle is amazing! Especially the middle one. Here are some of the “splash” colors a pinto or paint horse can…
Blue tongue on squirrel! Outside of their native wild habitat, it’s not so rare for animals of one species to find friendship in another species. There are currently some giraffe friendships going on that will knock your socks off. Check it out […]
